Cub Scout Roundtable

Join your roundtable staff on Tuesday, February 12 at First Christian Church on the corner of Josey Lane and Walnut Street in Carrollton for our Cub roundtable meeting.  Our themes this month are Dinosaurs Rock and Compassion!

We will recognize the Cub Scout leaders who are attending their first Cub Scout roundtable with us.  Spread the word to fellow leaders and parents and bring them along with you!

Just a reminder that Cub Scout roundtable is an adult training meeting, so please make other arrangements for your children.

Come and join in the fun as we explore our prehistoric dinosaur friends!  Our gathering time is at 7:00 and the meeting starts at 7:30.  We would love to see you there!

Boy Scout Roundtable

February 21 is the date of the North Star District's next Roundtable. Three of the District's experienced Scoutmasters: Jimmy Hooks, Mark Murray, and David Ragsdale will present a panel discussion on how to conduct a Scoutmaster's conference.  Scoutmasters bring your Assistant Scoutmasters and all interested adults who would like to share the insight of three successful Scoutmasters.
In addition there will be a service project presentation that may benefit your Troop on multiple levels

Commissioner Basic Training

The North Star District will be holding a Commissioner Basic Training Class on Thursday night, February 21st, at the LDS Church located at 4000 Nazarene Drive Carrollton. This is the same location that we hold Boy Scout roundtable. The Course Director is David Fornadel, an Assistant Council Commissioner. We will start at 7pm sharp. This training is open to all Scouters who are interested in more information about the Commissioners role in scouting.
If you plan on attending please RSVP so that we can prepare the correct number of handouts.

District Arrow of Light & Bridging Ceremony

The district wide Arrow of Light and Bridging Ceremony .  This event is open to all Cub Scouts who will have completed the requirements for the Arrow of Light by February 24. This is the first of two planned ceremonies for the district.  Please RSVP by February 15.

Does Your Unit Have A Trained Top Leader?

Is your unit's Top Leader Trained ?

While we have until 2015 to answer YES for all of our units, we need to be able to say that for over 70% of them by the end of 2013.  Currently we are at 39%.
As mentioned last month, a list of Trained / Not Trained Top Unit Leaders (along with our percentage to our ultimate goal of 100%) is now available on the North Star District website.  Just click on Unit Training under the Training section then select your unit type (PackTroopTeam or Crew) to see if your unit's Top Leader is trained or not.  If they are not, you will also see what training they need to take to become trained.

Remember, to be a "Trained Leader", an adult volunteer needs to have successfully completed all the training as proscribed by National. If you are not sure that you are a Trained Top Unit Leader, a list of the required training can be found at here

BALOO Training

BALOO (Basic Adult Outdoor Orientation) Training on March 2nd!

Every Pack is required to have at least one BALOO trained adult to take
their unit on an overnight camp out. To provide flexibility in scheduling,
redundancy in case a leader cannot attend and to be able to share
responsibilities, it is highly recommended that more than one adult leader
per unit receive this training.

Join us on March 2nd at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Old Denton
Road in Carrollton for training that will give pack leaders an
understanding of the focus of the BSA outdoor program, the skills to plan
and carry out an entry-level outdoor experience for the pack and knowledge
of the resources available from BSA. Successful completion of this training
will result in an increased level of confidence and a willingness to plan
an age-appropriate pack overnighter.

Den Chief Training

If your Boy Scout (who is First Class rank or above) is interested in
serving a Cub Scout or Webelos den as a den chief, he will want to be
included in this half day session. After completing this course on March
3rd, he will be confident in his ability to assist the adult den leaders
in delivering the den program. He will also be prepared to lead the Cub
Scouts using the experience and lessons that he will gain through the fun
that he will have in this course. Being a den chief with a Cub Scout or
Webelos den will also fulfill his leadership position requirements for
Star, Life and Eagle. The flyer on the website has all the details for the course including contact information to ask any questions - be sure to check it out and share the flyer with other boys in your troop!

Note: if you registered before Feb 5th, please re-register as the registration page has changed.
